Job Description JOB SUMMARY To serve our customers by ensuring that all vehicles (e.g. tractors, trailers, forklifts, pallet jacks) are maintained in safe, efficient operating condition according to established company standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment (e.g. tractors, trailers, forklifts, pallet jacks, lift gates) to maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet to include, but not limited to FAI/CVI (Annual) Inspections; performs preventative maintenance, diagnosis and repair to refrigeration (Reefer) units and ensures that all vehicles meet minimum department of transportation stated safety requirements. Performs maintenance repairs on all vehicles such as inspections, scheduled repairs, malfunctions and road-call repairs in a safe, efficient, and quality manner, addressing all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write ups timely, efficiently and correctly the first time; diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repairs to manufacturer specifications, including but not limited to engines, transmissions and clutches, drive-line, differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition system, exhaust systems (including regeneration systems), intake systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems and lift-gate hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems; test drives vehicles to ensure equipment is operating properly. Completes required paperwork according to established standards (e.g. work orders for all work performed, safety documents, and purchase orders for all parts ordered, preventative maintenance records and other repair documents). Works with Safety Manager to perform monthly OSHA inspections on vehicle maintenance facility. Ensures all food safety protocols are met according to established guidelines (e.g. m aintains sanitary conditions in fleet shop); assists with maintaining sanitary conditions in the fleet shop. Follows preferred work methods at all times, and immediately advises supervisor of any unsafe conditions. Maintains and safely operates all assigned equipment, including but not limited to hand cart, pallets, load bars, SLS unit, and personal protective equipment. Communicates with management team regarding any equipment issues, safety issues or other concerns that arise during work shift. Works assigned schedule and works overtime as needed; exhibits regular and predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned by Management. Requirements REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent degree and 1 year of tractor trailer experience preferred or the equivalent in work experience is preferred. Previous vehicle repair experience is strongly preferred, with emphasis on diesel repair. CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Class A Commercial Driver's License is preferred. Welding and refrigeration certificate preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: DOT regulations related to the repair of vehicles; safe lifting practices. Skill in: communicating with co-workers; solving problems. Ability to: read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to safety regulations; perform basic math functions (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, divide); effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision; be flexible, prioritize work and solve problems; operate semi-tractor/trailer, arc welder, lifts, jacks, oversized tools, electronic analysis equipment, grinders, air compressors, and associated pneumatic tools; provide own hand tools and wear required personal protective equipment . PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The associate is frequently required to lift , push, or move parts and equipment that weighs up to up to 75 pounds by hand; climb in and out of a tractor and trailer; reach, bend and twist. The associate is occasionally required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold and/or humid conditions; and moving mechanical parts and may be required to work in confined spaces. The associate may be required to work on-call and starting at various start times to successfully meet business needs. The associate is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
