DescriptionPurpose:Reporting to the President of UPMC Medical group and UPMC Central PA Medical Services, the Director of Physician & Advanced Practitioner Recruitment (PPR) serves a key role in assuring that physician and APP needs for the growing health system are met in a timely fashion and within organizational and budgetary guidelines. UPMC Central PA is an organization with approximately 1,800 providers across 7 hospitals and 9 counties in Central PA. It encompasses ambulatory and hospital-based specialists, primary care providers, and surgeons. Manages and leads an extensive team of recruiters and onboarding specialists.Responsibilities:

  • Excellent communications/interpersonal skills
  • Works consistently to improve the organization's overall physician and practitioner recruitment results through improvements made in the practice offerings, recruitment process, and impressions created for physician and practitioner leads and candidates.
  • Internal performance metrics are tracked and compared to national physician and practitioner recruitment benchmarks,
  • Consistently provides market intelligence on demand/supply, turnover rates, training shifts, compensation trends and other physician and practitioner practice trends to internal stakeholders
  • Represents him or herself as the in-house expert on physician and practitioner recruitment
  • Develops a strategic plan for physician and practitioner recruitment to accomplish the established annual goals for UPMC in Central PA Medical group and Medical Services
  • Develops a recruiting plan to include advertising, conference and convention attendance, mailings, email blasts, web postings, database management and other sourcing activities
  • Develops and utilizes other sourcing techniques as needed to fulfill the physician and practitioner recruitment goals
  • Works in partnership with marketing and designated marketing agencies to develop physician and practitioner recruitment marketing materials including exhibit booth, web pages and postings, advertisements, direct mail and others as needed
  • Ensures the physician and practitioner recruiters construct effective recruitment/sourcing strategies for each of their search assignments.
  • Maintains a current list of openings and provides regular updates as requested
  • Creates and implements a long-term recruitment strategy that builds solid working relationships with area high schools, universities, medical schools and residency/fellowship programs.
  • Influences other organizational representatives to engage in this strategy, including administration and the medical staff, for maximum impact
  • Monitors the progress and success of each physician search and establishes recruitment staff performance expectations and monitors actual to expected outcomes.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, manages and provides general oversight of recruitment staff.
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of physician and practitioner recruitment market trends as well as in-house physician and practitioner recruitment program standards and expectations
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise
  • Addresses inadequate performance in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Establishes and maintains the right physician and practitioner recruitment team structure to meet the needs of the health system.
  • Assigns specific duties and responsibilities to physician and practitioner recruitment team members based on team member's experience, expertise and skill development
  • Interfaces on a regular basis with senior leadership of UPMC Central PA Medical Services and UPMC Central PA Medical Services and community affiliates to determine the physician and practitioner need and to provide progress reports.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with the Vice President/Chief Medical Officer, Vice Presidents of clinical departments, chairs of clinical departments and residency program directors of UPMC Central PA, as well as the management and physicians in UPMC Central PA, UPMC Central PA and community affiliates
  • Obtains regular input from UPMC Central PA leadership in the development of Physician and practitioner recruitment needs
  • Ensures that a database is created and maintained for provider recruiting and reporting
  • Provides regular reports that inform key stakeholders about search progress, internal performance, market themes/trends, candidate feedback and other strategic and tactical insights as needed
  • Provides contract management of all physician and practitioner search agencies and sourcing/screening vendors to include contract selection, monitor of service and payment fees.
  • Researches physician and practitioner search agencies and sourcing/screening vendors to determine the best fit to meet the needs and negotiate agreements
  • Maintains regular communications with search agencies and sourcing vendors to resolve any performance or payment issues
  • Together with the Senior Management of UPMC Central PA and community affiliates, develops an annual estimate of the required providers to be recruited on an annual basis.
  • Develops an annual expense budget and manages the recruiting expenses in conformity with the approved budget.
  • Obtains input from key stakeholders to determine physician and practitioner recruitment requirements for the fiscal yearo
  • Develops an estimated number of needed physicians and practitioners for approval of Senior Management of UPMC Central PA and community affiliates
  • Researches previous year's budget to determine where efficiencies can be gained
  • Reviews and submits expenses for approval and payment
  • Assists with preparation of offers to providers
  • Oversees and supports the recruiters in the preparation of offer documents for advanced practitioners
  • Tracks extended offers to close rates, provider compensation levels, and other trends for the organization
  • Able to exercise utmost discretion in dealing with highly sensitive matters
  • Other duties as assigned.QualificationsQualifications:
    • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree
    • 5+ Years of Professional recruiting experience, preferably in recruiting healthcare providers
    • 7+ Years' experience in Healthcare
    • Knowledgeable of hospital environment and trends in evolving patient care models
    • Knowledgeable about physician and practitioner specialties and trends in physician and practitioner compensationPreferred Qualifications:
      • Master's Degree
      • 3+ Years' experience within a multi-hospital system environmentLicensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Clearances must be dated within 90 days
        • Act 33 with renewal
        • Act 34 with renewal
        • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
