Must-Have: Experience in perioperative nursing Description: 1)
Assesses and responds to the individual physical, psychosocial, and
spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and
interaction. 2) Acts as a patient advocate. 3) Utilizes
professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care
and address identified problems. 4) Communicates patient
assessments to the appropriate individuals, ensuring the
coordination of patient care. 5) Demonstrates knowledge of
diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG. 6)
Demonstrates skills in IV therapy. 7) Transcribes and implements
physicians' orders accurately and timely while admitting patients
to the surgical center efficiently. 8) Documents in patient
clinical records via computer with accuracy and timeliness. 9)
Checks the required information in the patient record to comply
with correct surgical procedures. 10) Completes a final review of
the patient record to ensure all paperwork and activities, such as
site marking, are complete and that the anesthesiologist has
communicated with the patient and family. 11) Provides appropriate
and knowledgeable instruction and education to patients and their
families. 12) Decrements supplies according to policy and utilizes
supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without
compromising patient care. 13) Assists with housekeeping duties,
such as cleaning and making beds, as needed for patients. 14) Uses
knowledge and critical thinking to assess and provide appropriate
nursing care in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). 15)
Recognizes patients' needs, maintains airway, monitors vital signs,
uses the correct medication to control pain, and consults with the
surgeon and anesthesiologist if difficulties arise that affect the
patient. 16) Evaluates patient status using discharge criteria to
safely transition the patient to Phase 2. 17) Familiarizes with the
transfer process and procedure for sending a patient elsewhere. 18)
When functioning as a float nurse, maintains communication between
all areas and is available to assist staff as needed to maintain
flow. 19) Relieves staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner
and utilizes staff in a cost-effective manner. 20) Works as
assigned in pain management and eye laser procedure areas. 21) Is
familiar with anesthesia supplies, assists with nerve blocks, and
knows the location of emergency equipment and medications. 22)
Participates in committee meetings, offers suggestions for
improvements, and seeks guidance and direction when needed. 23)
