Description: Provides professional nursing care to treat human
responses to life-threatening problems. Conducts assessment based
on established standards. Responsible for ongoing assessment of
patients' needs. Develops a plan of care based on assessments.
Implements nursing measures to protect, maintain, and restore
health. Recognizes cardiac arrhythmias and life-threatening
situations. Takes appropriate action in emergency situations.
Conducts comprehensive health history and physical assessments.
Prioritizes patient problems and needs based on actual or potential
threats. Updates the problem list as needed to meet critically ill
patients' requirements. Manages life-threatening complications of
critically ill patients. Implements interventions to prevent
complications. Maintains airway and ventilation, hemodynamic
stability, and stable heart rhythm. Takes responsibility for
maintaining knowledge and skills in critical care practice. Stays
aware of professional issues and trends in the field. Updates
knowledge and clinical skills on an ongoing basis. Completes
mandatory education and participates in annual competency
evaluation. Assists with temporary pacemaker insertion and
