As a part-time position, the schedule will be approximately M-F 9:30am - 1:00pm, with options to become fulltime. As our Music Specialist, you will travel to multiple Georgetown Hill locations, and applicants should have reliable transportation options. Your role will be to meet the individual needs of students as part of our music enrichment program.Travel to the following locations may be part of your day in our preschool programs:Bethesda/Chevy Chase - Our multi-level campus is in the heart of Bethesda on Wisconsin Ave (Metro Accessible) Congressional Plaza - Our campus is one block off of Rockville Pike (Metro accessible)Hood College - In partnership with the Onica Prall Lab school, we are located on the beautiful campusGreenwood - Located right next door to PG Plaza (Metro Accessible)What you'll doTeach music to children ages 3-5 at various campuses using our creative, age-appropriate curriculumMaintain a consistent schedule of classroom visits in coordination with the campus directorUtilize the music curriculum and other developmentally appropriate activities to provide engaging and effective music instruction to assigned age groupsDifferentiate instruction as needed to maximize participation for all childrenProvide a written summary of music instruction to share with families in weekly campus communications (i.e., campus director's weekly newsletter)Supervision of preschool children to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all studentsSupport the physical, socio-emotional, and developmental needs of each child in the classroomDemonstrate effective communication skills and positive interpersonal relations with children, families, and colleaguesCollaborate with Georgetown Hill's other music instructors and specialists to plan activities, share ideas, problem-solve, and make program improvementsMaintain a safe, positive, classroom environment for all students and staffMonthly meetings to report on progress, problem-solve collaboratively, share observations and ideas, and ask questionsQualificationsThe minimum education/certification requirements for Music Specialists in our preschool program is the MSDE 90hr Preschool Certification or a CDA with the preschool endorsement.Our ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience teaching Music to preschool children (preschool ages) and the following credentials/skills:Proficiency in at least one instrumentComfortable singing in front of groups of children and teachersThe ability to manage the physical demands of a preschool setting. This includes but is not limited to: sitting on the floor, getting up quickly from the floor, lifting up to 40 pounds, reaching and lifting above your head, etc. MSDE 90hr certification or CDA certification with Preschool endorsement preferredReliable transportation (this position requires local travel)Understanding of the principles of child development and teaching methodsProficient technological skills to utilize various productivity toolsA personal demeanor that is warm, friendly, and cool-temperedExtremely reliable in attendance and punctualityOrganized and able to prioritize and multi-taskTeam-oriented and willing to work with othersPer Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care regulations,--all applicants must submit to and successfully pass a state and federal background check as a contingency of employment.
